Wedding - free bar or pay bar?
Been invited to a wedding as a plus 1 on sat and because I am such a scruff I gotta buy new shirt tie and a pair of strides because I am no longer a 32' .

Looking at the invitation it said wedding at xyz church and reception at xyz pub in Chelmsford- then in capital letters was the words PAY BAR.

Is this a new thing? Admittedly I can prob count the amount of weddings I've been to one hand but they was always free food and booze.

Last one I was invited to (but didn't go to) was about 11 years ago in Ireland and that was a pay bar .

So is this a new thing?

"My MATE hired Upton Park back in 2006 for his wedding..."

*cringes*

Even a council estate chav like me recognises how vulgar that is.

A mate of mine spent a fortune on his wedding and honeymoon.
Wedding at some little church up in the Welsh Valleys.
Reception in Caerphilly Castle, honeymoon in the Seychelles, some secluded island only reachable by speedboat apparently.

He was divorced inside a year.

I tend to get really pissed at weddings and then end up smashing some of the bridesmaids in the balloon knot; this usually takes place in the toilets, but the birds love it so much that the noise they makes draws a crowd of people who cheer me on.

Should really at least put a grand behind the bar.. If u can't afford it then you really can't afford to get married in the first place.

My father in law had only one stipulation for my wedding and that was that no one would pay for a drink all night. We paid for everything else but it made for a great day as everyone was shitted.

Can't stand it when people pay a fortune for a big elaborate venue and cars but then expect you to pay for gifts and booze. Save your money on all that pretentious shit and let everyone have a good time.

Personally - If you invite someone to a wedding, it's the same as bringing someone into your home, free bar. My daughters wedding was a year ago and the free bar wasn't abused.

Haha

I went to a mates wedding last summer and stuck £150 in my jacket pocket for the pissup. Got there and found it was a free bar which was happy fucking days. A few months back put my whistle on to go to another wedding, stuck my hand in the pocket to find 150 crisp English pounds sat in there from last year

It depends on your friends, I think. If you gave the kind of friends who will abuse you hospitality, or not.

Re: Wedding - free bar or pay bar?
A few years ago to save money (had our own wedding to pay towards) I drove to the evening reception of a wedding we went too. When I went to the bar and ordered my one beer for the night and the missus her Malibu and Coke, I got my wallet out and the barman said "it's a free bar tonight sir". I was not even able to leave the car there and get a cab home as it was needed the next day.

Fuming is not the word!

"One of them ended up fucking the bridesmaid (absolute sort) from behind in the toilet. And doing coke off her back. While his wife and her boyfriend were chatting in the hall."

Not sure if a free bar can be blamed for that. Seems to be other issues surfacing there.

I like the idea of a wedding cake made of cheese. Maybe in addition to a cakey cake, for people who don't have a sweet tooth.

Re: Wedding - free bar or pay bar?
My brother in laws mates took the piss with the free bar. One of them ended up fucking the bridesmaid (absolute sort) from behind in the toilet. And doing coke off her back. While his wife and her boyfriend were chatting in the hall.

Such a shame I was too young to enjoy that wedding.
